Would you like to help your staff achieve recognition for the work they do?
The Equine and Horticultural Apprenticeships are aimed at young people aged 16-18, who are working within these industries and want to learn new skills while they are working and gain recognised qualifications.
We have a limited number of places for level 2 apprenticeships available.
There is a £20 per week charge for this course however it will be refunded when the apprentice completes the course within the course timeframe.
Apprenticeship in Horse Care
Available for 16 to 18 year olds, this is your opportunity to ‘earn as you learn’, combining working with horses or a similar job with one day a week at BCA.
About the course
If you are working at a livery or riding stables and do not want to attend college full-time then this programme could be for you.
You will normally spend one day a week at college and the rest of the week at work. As an Apprentice you will gain the following qualifications: a NVQ Level 2, Key Skills, and a NPTC Health and Safety Certificate for the equine industry.
The NVQ is split into units and you will be assessed on your practical ability and knowledge to do the job competently.

Horse welfare
Horse care and husbandry
Riding
Transporting horses
Health and Safety
The development of Key Skills in the Application of Number, IT and Communication
Length of the course
15 months
Entry requirements
You will need to have experience of handling horses, enthusiasm and commitment

Horticulture Apprenticeships in Landscaping and Sports Turf
Available for 16-18 year olds, this is an opportunity to ‘earn as you learn’, combining working with your employer, with one day a week day release at BCA.
About the Course
Before you start we will discuss and agree which is the correct programme for you, based on your experience, any qualifications you may already have and an assessment.
As an Apprentice you will be involved in a range of topics, so as well as gaining your Diploma in work-based Horticulture and Key Skills, you will also achieve industry skills and certificates in First Aid and a spraying qualification.
The course includes:

Amenity and decorative horticulture
The horticulture industry and organisations
Nursery stock production
Turf maintenance
Landscape construction
Horticulture machinery
The development of Key Skills in the Application of Number, IT and Communication
